ITCandor’s 2019 ITC predictions – culture clashes and trade wars

Welcome to my 10th set of annual predictions for the IT and Communications (ITC) industry. As always I began with a self-assessment of last year’s efforts. This time my 10 chosen topics are:

  1. The market grows by just 0.8% worldwide
  2. ITC manufacturing stays in the Far East despite new nationalism
  3. Cyber security goes multi-tenant and cross-border
  4. The EU suffers post-Brexit blues
  5. Cloud wash 2019 – investment costs spiral; the bubble bursts for some
  6. Large organisations adopt multi-cloud management and better data governance
  7. IT and OT convergence will be limited by differences in expectations and market views
  8. European and Japanese suppliers fall behind US and Chinese ones
  9. 5G, SD WAN, NVMe over Fabric will drive ITC hardware growth
  10. Algorithms and robots challenge our privacy and ethics

Our industry thrives most in a peaceful, affluent global market with free trade and open minds. Unfortunately we’re not going to have a lot of that in 2019. Nevertheless I wish you and your companies all the success you deserve. I strongly believe that we should spend more time thinking and discussing what technology should and should not be used for, rather than continuing to develop it willy nilly just to make ourselves richer.

As always I’d like to thank all of those colleagues and contacts for helping me to produce this report. Happy New Year!
