ITC will be more of a solution to, than the cause of, the challenges of a difficult year

My final prediction is that ITC will help combat the serious challenges we face in 2022. In particular:

  • Climate change – data centers running exclusively on renewable energy will become vital in monitoring and cutting carbon emissions in many areas and provide emergency responses to the fires, floods and freezes we experience. However we also need a more professional approach to the continued use of ITC equipment (see my Figure above). However, the extent to which manufacturing of this equipment is done using energy derived from fossil fuel (increasingly in China) will limit the advantages.
  • Continuing pandemic – ITC will continue to help through improving virtual connection experiences where physical meetings have become dangerous, allowing pharmaceutical companies to address and provide immunization of viral mutations speedily and providing mass monitoring and protection delivered by our governments. However I don’t expect much change in the extent to which the running of spurious workloads will hinder this progress.

My pessimism for the new year is alleviated by the extent to which our industry can help in a time of uncertainty. It won’t be business as usual, but will be more interesting as a result.
I wish you all a Happy New Year and every success in building your business profitably, while concentrating on being part of the solution rather than the cause.
